The property
This is a fine historic two bedroomed house right in the heart of the town. Dating back to the 1500s its ancient oak beams and wood panelled walls will transport you back to a far gone age.
Set in the pretty cobbled Fish Street it is the most charming of properties. John Wesley founder of the Methodist church preached from here in 1763. It has a cosy wood burning stove and a lovely sunny courtyard.
Having fallen into a sorry state of disrepair this grade 2 listed building underwent a full renovation in 2019. Under the watchful eye of the local conservation officer Wesley House was lovingly and respectfully brought back to life. The entire back wall of the property was rebuilt, installing a new soleplate and replacing parts of the timber frame that could not be saved. It was a long labour of love but the house has emerged triumphant.
There is a cosy wood burner in the wood panelled lounge.
The rear of the property is quite ancient dating back to the 1500s and in the kitchen you will see a fine example of the old cobbling of bricks at the entrance. There is a bespoke glass wraparound showcasing Shrewsbury. Other than the drone shot of Attingham Park ( our local National Trust ) every photograph was taken by the owner. Also in the kitchen is the original cast iron range which was found behind a stud wall, just hiding and waiting to be loved again.
She was officially opened by the mayor of Shrewsbury and the town crier in October 2019.
